Frau Strahan's 3rd Grade Picnic

Yesterday was the girls' last day of school, and the 3rd grade picnic out in the park. Here is Alyssa's whole class, and their teacher, Frau Strahan.

All lined up to do a Peanut Relay Race.

Walking backwards and trying very hard not to drop the peanut off the spoon. If it drops, you have to start over :)!

Concentration!

The kids excited that their relay team is winning!

The kids were all excited to have water balloons at their picnic. 2 seconds before this picture was taken, Alyssa and her friend Molly were facing each other playing playing some kind of hand clapping game, and the very moment it was announced that we had water balloons the kids came running!

The water balloon toss. I was glad the water balloons were such a big hit. As I was filling them at my house earlier in the day it almost looked like it was going to rain, and I was getting completely soaked thinking that the balloons wouldn't be much fun if the weather didn't turn around a bit. It ended up being a beautiful afternoon.

Alyssa was very strategic during the water balloon fight. She kind of held back towards the outside of the crowd until most people had thrown their balloons, then once everyone else had been "disarmed" they were all chasing her, trying to get hit by the last balloon left.

Laughing as she runs from her friends.

This boy, Adonis, was relentless in trying to get Alyssa to throw her water balloon at him. Here, I think she is kind of teasing his efforts to get her attention.

3rd grade friends. Alyssa had some very nice classmates this year, and she'll really miss being with this group of children. There are only three 4th grade classes though, which gives her the 1 in 3 chance of being with many of her friends again next year. Alyssa will also miss her teacher, Frau Strahan, who always gives out Jolly Ranchers and other goodies as rewards for getting her work done correctly and on time :)

Wow, third graders look so big! Looks like a fun park day... I'm surprised they did a peanut relay race with all the allergies this day in age.

Yes, hanging out with the 3rd graders is a completely different scenario than the kindergartners! One of the boys found a dead squirrel and was swinging it around by it's tail. I was sooooo thankful that I didn't have Rebekah with me!!
About the peanuts: When the other mom who planned the picnic suggested the peanut relay, I offered to bring in marshmallows instead, but was assured by the teacher that none of the kids in the class had any nut allergies. So although I'm okay with peanuts, I guess I'm the only one in our class with nut issues :-)
