Family Day at Bradford Beach

The girls running in the sand at Bradford Beach.

Kahiwa with Lake Michigan behind her.

The Red Cross was at the beach showing kids the proper way to wear a life jacket. Kamele was not at all happy to have a life jacket on, so she never even made it into the canoe they were using for the demonstration.

A and E in the canoe.

Digging in the sand for the kid's treasure hunt. At first Rebekah was too busy playing in the sand where we set up our towels and chairs to participate in the treasure hunt, but then...

Alyssa uncovered some bubbles in the sand...

And it took no more convincing from Emma as she ran up to where Bekah was playing for the baby to discover she was missing out on something fun. She put her bucket down and ran to catch up!

The treasure hunt was fun, there were flags "hidden" around the beach, and where each flag stood, there was treasure buried nearby in the sand. It could have kept the girls busy all afternoon.

Kahiwa showing the dinos she dug up.

Little Duckie found a duckie.

Relaxing in the sand.

Alyssa made a Sand Teddy, while we waited for the sand castle building contest to begin.

Emma made a Sand Bunny (not quite as easy to see as Alyssa's bear).

The sand castle building begins! Here, Ka'iulani is hard at work.

Making a mad dash back to her building area after filling her bucket with water so she could have some wet sand to build with.

The kids were given 30 minutes to build whatever they could finish in that time. Here is Alyssa with her finished product.

Emma's finished castle. All of the other kids in the competition were boys (who seemed to be more efficient builders) but the girls still won a $25 Toys R Us card.

Kamele by the lake.

Since she missed the crafts a day earlier at Gathering Waters Fest, she stopped by the crafts today and made a cute butterfly out of empty toilet paper rolls and colored duck tape.

Sand Monster!

Grandma and baby looking out at the lake.

A's Sand Angel.

Playful Em.

Sunbathing beauty.

Jumping over "waves."

Hearts that A and E drew in the sand.
