Happy 4th of July!

"The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more." John Adams

John Adams was actually two days off on his "prediction." I believe the Declaration was completed on July 2nd, but Congress needed time to debate and revise it, approving the final Declaration of Independance two days later on July 4th. But, everytime I see fireworks, I think of the above quote (I actually thought it was Ben Franklin who said it and was surprised when I looked it up) and wonder if our country's Founding Fathers could have envisioned the 4th of July celebrations of today.
America was founded by people of faith who sought after God to establish a nation unlike any other. What a privilege to be an American, and how thankful we are to all the men and women who have fought for our nation!
