In the evenings last week, the girls participated in Mega Sports Camp at church. Alyssa chose to do Track and Field, and Emma chose Baseball. The theme of the camp this year was UNDEFEATED. About 2 hours each night was spent doing drills and playing their sport of choice, then each night was finished off with their huddle coach where they talked about the day's lesson. They incorporated the stories of real-life athletes and experiences they have had competing in their sports with Biblical truths, it is very, very cool! On Friday there was a Closing Rally where all the parents were invited to see what the kids learned throughout the week.
Emma getting instructions from her coach, who happened to be the winning captain for VBS ~ he had a very busy week!! He called Kahiwa "Baseball Emma."
She slid into 1st base...which shocked me. She's always aggressive when it comes to competitive games, but I never even knew she what sliding into a base was, or when it was appropriate to do that.
Poor kid: as she slid, she got hit right on her ear with another child's glove. Ms. Melissa comforted her, and she was back in the game less than 5 minutes later. I watched her hit two more times (she got on base both times :-) Unfortunately I don't have anymore pictures of her because Dave took the camera to the other side where Alyssa was running track. Ah, the difficulty of trying to be in more than one place with more than one child at the same time...
Loving Track and Field! Mega Sports Camp offers the children 5-6 sport choices each year and the sports sometimes change. Dave and I joked last year, that one of the sports they should offer should be track and field. We were thinking, "What would they do, have the kids run for 2 and half hours? They'd be exhausted, and why would the kids want to do that?" Well, T&F was offered for the first time this year, and of course without hesitation, Ka'iulani knew that was what she wanted to do. She came home each night telling us about the races she won, and enjoyed each practice.
Pastor Greg about to race his daughter, Annalese.
Running the hurdles. They only used the short practice hurdles, but Alyssa loved it! She kept telling me, "I do it so perfectly, Mom!"
Hurdles again. All the photos of her in the air came out somewhat blurry.
Dancing with her friend Amanda at the Closing Rally to "Take It All."
Two nights in a row, Ka'iulani won a raffle prize. She was more pleased about how loud her friends cheered for her when she won than the actual prizes themselves, although the prizes were great too!

Alyssa with her coach, Miss Natalie.
After the rally the kids gathered to play basketball in the gym because a week of having VBS from 2-4:30pm followed by dinner at church and then Mega Sports Camp from 6-8:30pm wasn't quite enough activity for the kids. You would have thought they would have been exhausted by this point, but not even close!! I had to laugh a little when I saw this picture though. Alyssa is ALL legs, so long and skinny they look like little toothpicks.
Emma with the prize she chose with the "flashes" she earned all week. The flashes are ironed to her shirt, and the kids get one each day for completing their "sports flash" activity at home.
Rebekah and Amanda's sister, Abby having so much fun as they run around the bigger kids on the basketball court.
