Something to Say

"Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith, and in purity. Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching, and to teaching. Do not neglect your gift, which was given to you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you.
Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and those who hear you."

1 Timothy 4:12-16
The week before we went to visit my Aunt, Alyssa studied music and drama at church. They used the above verses from 1 Timothy as a jumping off point to discuss that no matter what their age is, they have something to say, and more importantly that God has something to say to them and through them. First Timothy is such a great book in the Bible. It is a letter from Paul to Timothy encouraging him to work on his leadership skills at a young age so he may be prepared for the work God might have for him later. And that's exactly what the kids learned about all week.

Singing in the choir and smiling. The kids led the Sunday evening service this week. At the beginning of the week, I wasn't very familiar with their theme song, Something to Say, but by the end of the week I knew it by heart. Alyssa sang it morning, noon, and night.

Still singing. I think paying attention to a teacher's cues from her left.

When she was on stage to do a small drama skit, she looked so tiny. When she does Kid's Choir during the school year she is with kids ranging in age from 1st to 6th grade. Music and Drama is open to kids going in to grades 3 through 12. I think she enjoyed the challenge of being with older students. If you click on this picture to make it bigger, I think you can see her excited smile as their skit begins.
