MPact Girls Country Fair: Shine Like Stars

The night before we left to go camping, we had our annual Country Fair for the girls clubs at church. All the children in the church, and adults too can enter crafts or baked goods into the fair for judging. It's a fun summer event, all the girls love it. New this year was a talent show, Shine Like Stars.

My Daisy class in the cake walk room. Cake Walk is a game like musical chairs, except that everyone always has a chair. When the music stops, if the number on your chair is called out, you win a cake. Since I didn't get a class picture of my girls doing their act in the talent show, I took this one. The girls sang two songs, This Little Light of Mine, and My God is So Big. They did a great job. In preparation for it though, I severely under-estimated how much work it is to get a class full of kindergartners to do the same thing at the same time. I had to stand at the back of the room giving cues :) They were cute.

Alyssa and Emma were the only solo acts of the talent show for their age group (K5-3rd). I was surprised and a little sad more kids didn't perform. Especially in Alyssa's class there are quite a few kids who are great singers, dancers, or piano players, and it would have been more fun if more kids participated.

Alyssa sang Miley Cyrus' song, The Climb. And she rocked it :-)
Pastor Dennis, our MC for the night is the one sitting behind her.

Emma did her ballet number from the May dance recital she was in. All of Alyssa's friends were coming up to her afterward congratulating her, which made her feel very special.

During her first ever "solo performance" Kahiwa danced a little bit too close to the black stage curtain behind her, but she smiled the whole way through and had lots of fun.

Alyssa entered this giraffe diorama that won first prize for her age group. I had to laugh, most of the art entries were paintings or drawings and Ka'iulani told me she wanted to take on a diorama (what else could be more fun to make?) She used colored duck tape, paper towel rolls, and an egg carton to make the giraffe, the fence, and the person.

Emma entered four pieces of artwork that she painted. She ended up winning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize in her age group for her work. None of the above pictures of their artwork came out great, but Country Fair night was very busy and I didn't have the chance to take photos of the girls with their work.
